Show "Cabanagem" (Rereading, 2018), by Mário Nascimento, 50min
Cabanagem was a popular rebellion where blacks, Indians and mestizos insurged against the political elite in the northern region of Brazil during the regential period. Several battles left the movement marked by violence.
The choreographer began his work immersed in the universe of Cabanos through the literature of Márcio Souza and Marilene Corrêa.
The work is not narrative.
The show appropriates the essence of Cabanagem and uses the language of Mário Nascimento to translate the spirit of resistance, struggle, revolt,
and preservation of the cultures of a certain place.
"I searched the essence of Cabanagem in many wanderings through the city of Manaus, in contact with the people of the street, with the architecture. Besides literature, this served as a source of research and development of the work". Mário Nascimento
